2025-04-17

An academic salon with the tagline “Artificial Intelligence and the Research of Ancient Chinese Characters” was held at the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna on April 14 as part of a series of activities for Chinese Language Day.

This activity included two academic reports. The first was reported by Professor WU Zhenwu, President of the Chinese Ancient Characters Research Association and Former Vice President of Jilin University (JLU), whose report was titled “Artificial Intelligence and the Research of Ancient Chinese Characters”.

The report outlined the historical periods and categories of ancient Chinese scripts, noting that they represent the world’s only surviving ancient writing system still in use today. Their decipherment requires comprehensive analysis of graphical forms, contextual usage, and multiple evidentiary clues.

The second one was reported by Professor LI Chuntao, Director of the School of Artificial Intelligence at JLU, whose report was titled “Research on Ancient Chinese Characters and Utensils Based on Deep Learning”.

It introduced the structural principles, graphical characteristics, and radical functions of ancient Chinese scripts through concrete examples, emphasizing the need to match appropriate AI technologies according to different scenarios and research requirements.

Representatives, relevant individuals, and numerous reporters from countries around the world also participated. A communication session where they talked with Professors WU and LI was held after the reports.
