Jilin University’s Economics & Business Discipline Enters Top 1% Globally in ESI
Jilin University announced that its Economics and Business discipline has entered the top 1% globally in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) for the first time, according to the latest statistics update released by Clarivate Analytics on January 8. The rankings cover the period from January 1, 2015 to October 31, 2025, with Jilin University’s Economics and Business discipline securing the 548th position worldwide.

With this achievement , Jilin University now boasts 20 disciplines that have made it to the global top 1% of ESI, ranking 11th among universities in mainland China. Among these Chemistry ranks in the top 1 ‱ globally, while Materials Science, Engineering, Pharmacology & Toxicology, and Clinical Medicine are all in the top 1‰ global ranking.
In the current ESI institutional rankings, Jilin University sits at the 144th place worldwide, rising from its previous ranking in November 2025. 10,347 institutions around the world were included in this round of ESI rankings.
Compared with the previous period, 13 disciplines of Jilin University have improved their international rankings., General Social Sciences having the most significant progress, rising 11 places.
In addition, the university reported 1,238 highly cited papers, including 110 new entries, spanning 22 disciplinary fields. It also reported 40 hot papers, including 24 new ones, distributed across 11 disciplinary areas.
