ZHANG Xi visits Singaporean universities

From Dec 8 to 11, Professor ZHANG Xi, President of Jilin University (JLU) and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led a delegation to Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the National University of Singapore (NUS).

The visit included a trilateral academic symposium among the three universities, as well as the 12th Singapore International Chemistry Conference, at which President ZHANG delivered a keynote speech.  

During the meeting with NTU leaders, both sides discussed expanding cooperation in science, engineering, and the humanities, as well as joint graduate programs and research initiatives. A memorandum on physics and technology collaboration was also signed between JLU and NTU. President ZHANG emphasized the importance of international cooperation in tackling complex scientific challenges.  

The delegation launched the JLU-NUS Joint Laboratory for Liver Disease Research, aiming to advance medical studies and talent development. NUS senior vice president LIU Bin highlighted the lab’s potential to contribute to global health solutions.  

The trip also included engagements with the Chinese Embassy in Singapore and alumni, reinforcing ties between JLU and Singaporean institutions.
