Prof. Sune Svanberg delivers Dingxin Lecture at JLU
On June 9, Professor Sune Svanberg, Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, visited Jilin University (JLU) with his wife, Professor Katarina Svanberg, to deliver a lecture as part of the Dingxin Lecture Series. JLU President Prof. ZHANG Xi attended the event and presented Professor Svanberg with a commemorative plaque.
In his lecture, “Multi-Disciplinary Laser Spectroscopy in Action”, Professor Svanberg explored the applications of laser spectroscopy in atomic physics, environmental monitoring, food safety, and medical diagnostics.
He highlighted advances from high-resolution atomic spectroscopy to ultrafast laser-matter interaction, emphasizing the technology’s real-world impact – from cancer screening to pollution detection and food quality assessment.
The lecture drew an enthusiastic audience, with Professor Svanberg engaging in a lively Q&A session. A longtime friend of JLU, he first visited in the 1980s and has since played an active role in fostering China-Sweden academic exchange.
The event was hosted by the JLU Association for Science and Technology, and co-organized by the College of Physics and the Office of Global Engagement. After the lecture, the Svanbergs toured the university’s Central Lab of General Physics.
