JLU Vice President meets with Iwate University President

Prof. ZHANG Ran, Jilin University (JLU) Vice President, met with a delegation led by Prof. Satoshi Ogawa, President of Iwate University, Japan, on Dec 2, 2024.

 

ZHANG welcomed the delegation and introduced JLU’s history, academic strengths, and achievements in key disciplines. She highlighted the university’s active partnerships with Japanese institutions and expressed interest in expanding cooperation beyond agricultural sciences to include talent development and interdisciplinary research.

President Ogawa reviewed the ongoing collaboration between the two universities in plant and food sciences, including faculty and student exchanges, international conferences, and joint recruitment efforts. He also shared Iwate University’s approach to student training in the context of artificial intelligence. Ogawa expressed hope that the visit would lead to closer ties and stronger cooperation in education and research, contributing to social and economic development.

 

During the visit, the two universities held a symposium on agricultural sciences, attended by representatives from JLU’s Colleges of Veterinary Medicine, Plant Sciences, Animal Science, and Food Science and Engineering.

The delegation also toured several research facilities, including the State Key Laboratory of Diagnosis and Treatment of Severe Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, the New Agricultural and Interdisciplinary Research Center, and academic platforms within the College of Food Science and Engineering as well as the College of Animal Science.
